Laurence Caligaris explains how her team’s portfolio features one of the broadest ranges of sectors and product solutions found among Atradius Special Products customers.
Our customer base trades both hard and soft commodities, from oil and gas to agriculture, renewableting energy sectors, pharmaceutical and civil engineering. It includes banks and financial institutions as well as manufacturers in industries such as telecoms and transportation. Our customers require wide but tailor-made coverage from manufacturing risk to structured commodity finance. However, the most important point is not the range of transactions we cover, but the way we work. We develop close ties with our customers. We work to understand their strategy and what we can achieve together.
Most of our customers work with us on projects located in emerging countries. We understand that some transactions are worth insuring, even within a risk market or sector. For example, if a project is strategically important for a country or a region, we will conduct a closer inspection even if the area’s geopolitical environment would normally be too much for an insurer’s risk appetite.
In addition to working with our customers, we also practise close collaboration with our colleagues in Atradius. This is particularly true of the Special Products team. No matter where in the world our colleagues are located, we speak to each other on a daily basis. This mutual support is particularly useful when developing a solution that a colleague may already have expertise in. We also work closely with colleagues across Atradius units. For example, our Global colleagues whose focus is on developing cancellable solutions for multinational clients may need to add into their offer a non-cancellable option and we would work with them to produce the most suitable proposal to our customer. We also work closely with Atradius Bonding colleagues.
It is this collaborative and constructive approach to our work that is the essence of the service we deliver to our customer. We are willing to work together and to support the development of international and sustainable trade, both across Atradius and with our brokers and customers.
