Schrijver President of CI Association

The international association of export credit and investment insurers - the Berne Union - announced today at its Annual General Meeting in Budapest that Johan Schrijver, Managing Director of Atradius Dutch State Business, was elected President. He will assume a prominent position in international trade.

Schrijver, previously vice president of the Berne Union, was elected unanimously. In his new role, in addition to his responsibilities at Atradius and for the Dutch export community, he sees it as an important objective to put credit and investment insurance on the map as a crucial service to support global trade.

The Berne Union (International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers) aims to promote the development of export by protecting exporters against payment risks. It includes both payment risks on companies as well as political risk on countries. Export credit insurers play a key role in trade, especially given the increased risks associated with exports. The past year members of the Berne Union covered over a trillion in exports, about 10% of the entire global cross-border trade.
